Ironman Florida

I just signed up for the Ironman Florida on November 4, 2006. We're going down as a family to watch me suffer through this gruelling ordeal. Derek should be competing as well. At least that was the plan!

So how does one watch an iron man? Do we stare out to the open sea and hope to see a body on the horizon? Do we watch a path meander into the forest and hope someone emerges tired, panting and sweating? Do we listen for the sound of pedals humming in the air and hearts pounding at full force with people in skin tight clothing riding by with strange colors and weird advertisments all over the self breathing lycra?
How do you watch an Ironman? Perhaps the family is there to drag your sorry body back to the hotel so you can gasp for air and soak your tired muscles.
Where in Florida is this exciting spectator sport?

Nice! It is in Panama City Beach, Florida on Nov. 4, 2006. Derek just missed the cut-off to get in. At least that's what he says. Chances are he was just a bit scared. By the way, after I finish this Ironman, everyone must preface my name with Ironman or incorporate it as part of my name. My children will refer to me as "Irondad." Dad may refer to me as "Ironson." Derek already must bow before me, but now must say, "Ironbrother."

How about Dr. Iron or as you age we can refer to you as all old iron becomes when left to the elements and time. Rust. Perhaps we could just call you Rusty.
I suppose it is untrue what they say about ironmen competitors, that to really compete you should have a labotomy prior to the race.
